Week One-Educational Technology

I have just moved to Kentucky from Orlando, Florida. While there, I heard several other educators talk about the prevalence of Florida Virtual School, but learned little about it. I really had no concrete sense of what Florida Virtual School is, or how it functions. The video we were asked to watch was very informative in this regard.

I began my MAT two years a go at the University of Central Florida. I have completed six graduate-level teaching courses. Also, I am a fairly tech-savvy teacher (when compared with my colleagues). Hence, the introductory chapters of our text was something of a review for me. I have encountered most of the educational theorists and general perspectives in the past. The one thing that I got from this week was a dose of reality and reflection about my shortcomings.

I realized that I really should establish a course website that can be accessed by both students and parents, to stay abreast of class assignments and pertinent information. I had not created one in the past, because it seemed like to much effort for little return. I realize that I must create and maintain a class website upon returning to the classroom next fall.

I will be sure to learn how to create a great class website immediately. I have a former colleague and good friend that I plan to email in an effort to seek the best route to creating one. I'm sure that there will be few challenges with good information and guidance on my side. Moreover, my future students, parents, and myself will all benefit from the creation of the website. Perhaps I will receive fewer emails, inquiring what work has been missed due to student absence!
